Over the course of more than half a century, MJW has set the standard for assurance, tax, and advisory services in the metropolitan Washington, D.C. area. In the process, we have earned a solid reputation for accuracy and integrity among our business, not-for-profit, and individual clients, and recognition for our commitment to serving our community.
We succeed, we believe, because of the deep mutual respect that develops between our firm and our clients. In fact, in the great majority of our client relationships, we began by providing specific tax and assurance services, and over time became their trusted advisors. Of course, this may not be the fastest way to grow an accounting firm, but at MJW, it’s how we do business.
Our mission at MJW is to provide personalized service and attention for our clients and to assist them in achieving their financial and business goals.
MJW’s vision is to continue our rich history of:
At MJW, our goal of serving the community is part of who we are as a firm. We encourage our staff to be active in both their professional and local communities. We give our staff flexibility in their schedules to allow them to be actively involved in Kiwanis, school PTAs, Scouting, churches, and other charitable organizations.
In addition to individual community contributions, our firm has participated in multiple food and charitable collection drives. At least once a year, often during the holidays, we collect items for the less fortunate. We also collected money for the TAG Foundation for Philippine relief efforts in November 2013. In 2013, we also provided time off for staff who participated in painting two apartments for Homestretch. Every year, we find different ways to contribute, but we constantly encourage donating time, money and goods.
As a further commitment to our community, we developed the MJW Scholarship for our 50th anniversary. Instead of spending money on a party in the midst of the recession in 2009, MJW decided to raise funds to endow a scholarship. Within three months, the firm, the partners, the employees, our clients, and our friends and families had contributed more than enough to fund an annual scholarship for a Virginia resident studying accounting at a Virginia Institution.
MJW continues adding to the endowment and we have raised the scholarship amount. To date, we have awarded three scholarships to future accountants. The scholarship is administered by the Virginia Society of CPAs Educational Foundation. Our unique endowment process has become know as the “MJW model,” which other firms have adopted in setting up their own scholarships.
