MARYLAND OPENS TAX AMNESTY FOR DELINQUENT TAXPAYERS STARTING SEPTEMBER 1, 2015Aug 22, 2015
For taxpayers with eligible tax liabilities, the State of Maryland has enacted a Tax Amnesty Program that will run from September 1, 2015 until October 30, 2015. All civil penalties (except previously assessed fraud penalties), criminal prosecutions and one-half of unpaid interest will be waived for eligible participants in the Tax Amnesty Program. Taxpayers with Maryland deferred payment arrangements can also adjust their payment plans under the terms of this program.
Eligible Maryland tax liabilities are those that were due prior to December 31, 2014 and include Maryland Personal Income Taxes, Fiduciary Income Taxes, Pass-through Entity Nonresident Taxes, Corporate Income Taxes, Employer Withholding Taxes, Sales and Use Taxes and Admissions and Amusement Taxes.
Delinquent taxpayers that participated in the State of Maryland’s Tax Amnesty Programs in 2001 and 2009, have state criminal charges pending or are under state criminal investigation are not eligible to participate in this program.
Eligible applicants can pay their Maryland balance due during the amnesty period or can choose to start a deferred payment arrangement with the State of Maryland only if 10% of the combined outstanding tax and one-half interest liabilities are paid in the two month period and the remaining liability is satisfied before December 31, 2016.
